Ideas development cont.

For my ad, i would also like to stress that its not just one type of media that is being illegally shared. In order to do this, i aim to create some kind of 'icons' which will show picture representations for sound, games, and video and literature. I aim to have some concepts for these made very soon.

Also, i have been considering my target audience for this project. I dont want to just aim my ad at one specific age range as filesharing is a problem which a wide age range are involved. In order to do this, i aim to show a person of varying age committing copyright infringement for each of the captions i hope to add.

Doing so will mean i need to recruite some actors for my ad. There will be no speaking roles or need for facial expressions as the person face wont be shown. I dont want to show anyones face imparticular as doing so would give the impression that its always someone else who gets caught for such acts. It also means i can spend more time on shaping my ad the way i want it, rather than wasting time finding the right actors.

Ideas development cont.

After giving my previous idea much thought, i decided to change the format slightly. Rather than have the hand-cuff idea, i began to look at Mastercard and its 'priceless' ads. I wanted to use this idea because like in the mastercard ads, i can explain what the 'costs' for different items are. Doing this will also help to show how it is not just music which is illegally downloaded, but also software, literature and video. My priliminary ideas for what each caption will say are along the lines of;

'Downloading the new Harry Potter film........4 Gb
Downloading your favourite bands new album.........1 Gb
Copying a friend your new PC game ................. 4.7 Gb
Getting caught breaching copyright law ............£17,500 for each work infringed

An overview of the penalties of breaching copyright law can be found here:

Ideas development

After taking on board ideas from my tutorials, i decided to create an advert with simplicity being the key word. I liked the look of the apple ads and decided that the plain white background would gain me the look i was after.

I then thought of the idea to have a person sat in front of a computer, downloading various media types with the click of a button. A title would then read "In an age where downloading is almost instantanious, So are the consequences of illegal downloading." The shot would then turn to the hands of whoever is using the PC to find that they are hand-cuffed to the computer. This is to symbolise what could happen to people for downloading illegally. This could however give off the wrong message and further mislead viewers. Much like the ads for AIDs in the 80's.

Simulated Project Research Ideas

The first idea I began to think about was to be my version of a 1940's infomercial. My aim being to spread awareness of illegal downloading consequences. After discussion with my tutor, i was left with some comments to think about. The main one being what a 1940's infomercial had to do with illegal downloading. My developments on how to bring relevance to my idea just meant that i would not be able to get all my information across in the short time we have to not only create it, but also because the duration of the ad is only 20 secs. Below is the kind of style i was thinking of going with:
